The Auburn Environmental Park is the perfect place for a day trip! This park has been divided into open space regions and restricted use zones. The unusual usage area of the AEP is found in the south of the park. A birding tower and an elevated boardwalk go through a huge wetland section near these picnic tables. North of West Main Street, an information kiosk, picnic tables, and parking are available off Western Ave. NW. The environmental park is open from sunrise to sunset. The Boardwalk Trail is located in the Auburn Environmental Park (AEP) close to downtown Auburn. The 1/4-mile boardwalk trail takes you around part of the beautiful 250-acre wetland park, with views of marshy fields and Auburn wildlife, starting near the Bird and Wildlife Viewer tower on Western Ave NW and winding through the wetlands before ending on West Main Street. The Environmental Park is home to a rich variety of fascinating creatures, including dragonflies, hummingbirds, salamanders, marsh wrens, blue herons, and more. Take your camera to snap photos of all of the beautiful wildlife! Picnic tables with seats and several instructive signs along the route for anybody who wants to learn more about the Auburn Environmental Park and its inhabitants.
In 2004 City Council passed a resolution expressing interest in the Environmental Park Project. The formation of the AEP was made possible through a number of land acquisitions between 1996 and 2014, which resulted in a permanently protected area of 207 acres in size.
The park is an approximately 120-acre area that is bounded by 15th Street NW to the north, the Interurban Trail to the east, West Main Street to the south, and State Route 167 to the west. An additional 120-acre area west of SR 167 that encompasses a segment of Mill Creek is also being studied for possible future inclusion in the park!
